Research Area C will be headed by an independent (W3) professorship. The professorship will be staffed with positions for senior scientists/post-docs, doctoral students and technicians. Further budgetary items include consumables, fees for animal costs and instruments.
Moreover, a Junior Research Group will be allocated to the thematic field of Lung Microenvironmental Niche in Cancerogenesis. Such position is offered to excellent postdoctoral clinicians engaged in research or to postdoctoral scientists. The aim is to give outstanding young scientists the opportunity to head an independent research group over a period of 5 years. An evaluation of the junior research groups is planned after 5 years. Depending on the results, groups may be continued for another 2 years
maximum. The physician scientists will be clinically trained to allow them to complete their residency within this period.
